Manchester United grab dramatic win in Europa League
Fred and substitute Antony score in second half to seal victory
United now top of Group E after win over Real Sociedad
Manchester United came from behind to beat Real Sociedad 1-0 in the Europa League on Thursday, thanks to a goal from Alejandro Garnacho. The victory moves United to the top of Group E, with Sociedad dropping to second.
United started the match brightly and had the better of the chances in the first half. However, they were unable to find a way past Real Sociedad goalkeeper Alex Remiro. The visitors grew into the game as the half went on and had a number of good chances of their own. However, they were unable to make the breakthrough and the teams went into the break level.
United made a change at half-time, with Garnacho coming on for Jadon Sancho. The young Argentine made an immediate impact, setting up Fred for the opening goal in the 57th minute. United then doubled their lead in the 72nd minute, when Antony scored from close range after good work from Garnacho.
Real Sociedad pushed for a goal in the closing stages, but United held on to secure the victory. The win is a big boost for United, who have now won three of their four matches in the Europa League. They will be looking to continue their good form when they face Aston Villa in the Premier League on Sunday.
